Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, health care staff have put the interests of their patients ahead of their own safety and welfare.
Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd candidate Andrew Parkhurst says:
“The selfless dedication of our medical and social care heroes should always be adequately recognised and rewarded, but even more so now after so many have done so much for us and our loved ones.
“As well as rewarding NHS staff properly, care staff should be paid the Real Living Wage and unpaid carers supported with an increased carer’s allowance.
“The pandemic has also highlighted the longstanding pressures on the NHS, so a comprehensive recovery plan is vital to:
- Put mental health care on a par with physical health, with 24/7 access
- Get cancer and other screening back on track, and waiting times down for essential treatments and elective surgery
- Properly fund high quality palliative care and bereavement support services
- Bolster local community NHS services; eg for minor injuries, x-rays and vaccinations.
